I know it’s been awhile, but things are just starting to calm down after the holidays. To say that Jonathan’s Toy Drive 2011 was a huge success is an understatement. We outdid last year. We were able to donate to The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia $5,000 dollars worth of toys, $150 dollars worth of snacks, $120 dollars worth of coloring books to the Out-patient infusion area, and $1400 dollars in giftcards.
For The Children’s Hospital here in Aurora Colorado, we donated a wagon full of toys for Childlife to keep for birthday gifts we
were also able to donate 20 giftbags full of candy and $40 dollars worth of Target gift cards to each child. We had some Target giftcards left and so last Friday me and my husband went to the Out-patient Chemo Infusion area and handed out 15 Target giftcards just to make a day special for a child.
While we were in New Jersey, my 10 year old son Justin who still believes in Santa kept asking me, “How many days until Christmas? Do you think Santa will know that we’re at Grandma and Grandpa’s house?” I told him that we would be home in time for Christmas and that Santa would visit. I want you to think of the children who spent their Christmas in the hospital. What they must have been thinking when they should have been home. “Do you think Santa will know that I am in the hospital?” Well, Santa sure did visit them. We made such a big difference to these children.
I’ve had a couple of friends thank me for arranging the Toy Drive. I found it astonishing that they were thanking me. I couldn’t have done a thing without everyone’s support. If it weren’t for all my friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, and supporters I wouldn’t have a Jonathan’s Toy Drive to begin with. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for making Christmas special to me and my family.
I hope 2011 brings much health, happiness, love, and joy to everyone. Thank you for continuing Jonathan’s Journey! It never ends……Just wait for what is next!
